‘Ain’t Easy Being Green’ | ICYMI-Grassroots organization makes their mark in East Point for statewide environmental change
Climate-control advocacy group Georgia Conservation Voters (GCV) looking to light a fire under the state’s political leaders.
EAST POINT, Ga. — Wind the clocks back to late Summer 2021, and the discussion of combating climate change was seemingly not at the top of anyone’s list of political priorities in the Peach State.
Well…that is ‘almost’ anyone – one non-partisan group has been looking to light a fire under the ‘powers that be’ for quite some time here in Georgia.
Meet the Georgia Conservation Voters (GCV) – if that name isn’t quite familiar to you, it should be.
That beautiful, eco-activism mural at the corner of Ware Ave & East Point Street next to the Downtown Commons – that’s due to them. As well as those green ‘Climate Action Now’ yard signs many of you have seen around town.
Vox Pop ATL spoke with one of the representatives of the Energy Justice NOW (held at the corner of Ware Ave & East Point Street on August 23 from 6 pm to 8 pm, Abraham Park about the importance of the event.
“We got people that are struggling to make ends meet, who are having to choose; Do I turn on the heat, or do I pay for groceries?,” said the Georgia Conservation Voters (GCV), Communications Director.
“We want to put pressure on those Congresspeople to stop resisting that what everybody wants them to do.”
During the time since the Energy Justice NOW event, the GCV has been busy upholding its commitment to tackling climate change here in Georgia.
Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock has even joined the GCV’s mission to implement significant change in the political landscape.
