‘Bursting with PRIDE’ | EAV community hosts fundraiser for high-school LGBTQ+ youth group
As PRIDE Month drew to a close, East Atlanta residents discuss the continued importance of representation, inclusion and activism.
EAST ATLANTA, ATL. — Residents and local businesses from East Atlanta Village came together to host a fundraiser for Gay-Straight Alliance social club at Maynard Holbrook Jackson High School on Wednesday, June 30th.
Spearheaded by the East Atlanta Community Association, the community organization hosted its fundraiser, aptly named the EACA Pride Celebration at The Midway Pub located at 552 Flat Shoals Ave Se Atlanta, Ga 30316 in East Atlanta Village.
“East Atlanta is a neighborhood that has always taken me as I am,” applauded Liliana Bakhtiari, 2021 candidate for Atlanta City Council (District 5) and local resident.
“It's just an unbelievably euphoric feeling when you finally find out that you're amongst your own people and that you're not alone.”
The EACA Pride Celebration was hosted in conjunction with the return of The Midway Pub’s trivia night. The prizes for the event were compiled of gifts and services from several local businesses such as Bookish Atlanta, Mary’s Atlanta, Ruff Runners Dog Running Service, the upcoming East Atlanta Strut, and more!
Longtime EAV resident Alex Levy also had some words to share with Vox Pop ATL about the importance of Pride.
“The pendulum is swinging, and sometimes it swings hard in the wrong direction. Sometimes, they need a little bit of help swinging back the other direction,” expressed Levy.
The event was well attended and came as the perfect coda for the community to commemorate the end of Pride Month 2021.
