‘Eat, Drink & Be Scary’ | Local restaurant hosts movie-themed pop-up for the holidays
Corner Tavern hosts ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’-inspired pop-up bar during the month of December.
HAPEVILLE, Ga. — For the past few weeks, popular Hapeville restaurant and watering hole, Corner Tavern has been providing a much-need remedy for locals beset with a case of the holiday humbugs.
Birthed from the creative minds of the management staff, the Jack & Sally’s Christmas Pop-Up Bar appropriately began a weekly event on November 27th a.k.a. ‘Black Friday’ as a holiday-themed and socially-responsible alternative for the community and their patrons.
“I feel like everybody kind of enjoys ‘Halloween’, in my personal opinion.
So, to keep the spirit of Halloween alive a little bit longer, while also continuing with the theme of Christmas.” stated Corner Tavern’s bar manager, Natalie Swafford.
The movie-themed event was created as a method of occupying the woefully-underutilized venue, The Hopper which has seen little-to-no business since the beginning of the pandemic back in March.
The event space has been completely redecorated in the style of the popular 90’s hybrid-holiday animated classic, The Nightmare Before Christmas. Fans will quickly spot favorite characters, such as the eponymous Sally, Jack Skellington, and of course, his faithful-phantasmic hound, Zero.
The real treat for visitors lies in the hallway leading up to, The Hopper, where nearly every square has been painted to resemble the ‘Holiday Forest’ scene from the film.
According to mural artist and Corner Tavern bartender, Aja Huking, the experience was a welcome and rewarding challenge to execute.
Huking tells Vox Pop ATL that the project took nearly an entire week to complete with the help of her sister and fellow artist, Ariana.
“To get back into my roots of painting something so big was exciting and having my sister by my side was awesome as well,” Huking adds.
“It really gave me a boost because I thought that I lost my artistic ability but I was really happy to hear that everyone enjoyed it.
Tri-Cities residents looking to experience the Jack & Sally’s Christmas Pop-Up Bar for themselves can visit the event weekly on the top floor of Corner Tavern, located at 573 N Central Ave, Hapeville, GA, a few doors down from the Academy Theatre and Beer Girl, Growlers & Bottleshop.
