‘From the Ground Up’ | East Point city official celebrates returning to his craft with new art exhibit
Maceo Rogers displays a different side of his creativity with his new ‘Thru the Lens’ art show
East Point, Ga. — Whether planning for a commercial office, a prospective industrial park or the upcoming Downtown Commons, as director of Economic Development for the city of East Point, Maceo Rogers has had his plate with full creating new ways to develop our city.
Not a position that many might immediately find synonymous with the creative arts, however, the Cuthbert native and lifelong artist, is eager to showcase just how similar these two areas of his life really are.
“I've always looked at art as being able to visualize possibilities,” affirms Rogers.
“Whether it's a 200-acre piece of property or a 20 x 20-inch canvas. I see the possibilities before I start.”
His newest show, ‘Thru the Lens,’ is a solo exhibition of his most contemporary work that premieres at Jack Sinclair Gallery at the ArtsXchange on April, 30th.
Inspired by his personal experience of the pandemic, Rogers tells Vox Pop ATL that ‘Thru the Lens’ was in many ways, his form of reflection on the very basic simple things that perhaps we took so much for granted during COVID.
When asked what keeps the spark of creativity close to his heart, Rogers had this to share.
“It's a passion of mine since I first discovered that I could draw in the fourth grade, and it has never left me. It’s so deeply rooted, that it's ingrained in my soul. So, I can't get rid of it even if I want to,” Rogers says with a smile.
The opening ceremony for his ‘Thru the Lens’ exhibition will be held at ArtsXchange in East Point this Saturday, April, 30th from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and runs through May 31, 2022.
