‘How Sweet It Is’ | Local business owner celebrates long-awaited grand opening in Tri-Cities
Despite several setbacks during the past few years, 'Jake's Ice Creams' finally opens its second location in Hapeville.
HAPEVILLE, Ga., — “I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream” - Howard Johnson, songwriter
As thermostats everywhere begin to tip over the 90-degree mark, it’s hard to deny that the dog days of summer have officially descended upon us here in the Peach State.
Therefore, finding reliable (and preferably enjoyable) ways to keep cool tends to rise to the top of everyone’s to-do lists during the summer months.
That being said, is there a more perfect not to mention euphoric remedy against sweltering spikes of summer weather than a heaping bowl or a waffle cone of delicious ice cream?
I think not.
Now the residents of Tri-Cities can indulge themselves in the scoop-tastic splendor of none other than, Jake's Ice Creams - Tri-Cities which just so happened to have celebrated its official grand opening on Saturday, June 17th right in the heart of Hapeville on Virginia Ave.
If that name sounds somewhat familiar – it should.
The eponymous ice cream spot is the newest brick-and-mortar location of Hapeville resident and multi-hyphenated entrepreneur, Jake Rothschild.
As sweet-sounding as that might be to the rest of us, the endeavor to find a forever home in the self-proclaimed, Home for the Arts was anything but that.
After a few false starts in securing a viable location, Rothschild began to doubt if a storefront in Hapeville was truly in the cards for the second location of Jake's Ice Creams.
“Everybody has been on the track to make sure everything ran smoothly. We were treated like family, from the very beginning,” proclaims Rothschild.
“It was wonderful.”
Rothschild tells Vox Pop ATL that in spite of the setbacks, the actual experience of working with the City of Hapeville government has been – amazing.
According to his general manager and business partner, Shea Daniels, they were impressed with the sense of community and ‘open arms’ energy that the residents as well as the city council have displayed in getting Jake's Ice Creams open for business.
“We have been blessed with the opportunity to open Jake's Ice Creams in the city of Hapeville,” attests Daniels.
“There’s a real sense of community, just in the short time we've been here.”
Rothschild himself likened the experience of finalizing the location and getting permits as a “welcome mat,” and their dealing with the city council, et al as something closer to “Mayberry.”
Boasting an impressive menagerie of unique home-made flavors with even more unique names such as Delta’s Delight, Betwixed, and Slap Yo Mama, Jake's Ice Creams is sure to satisfy even the most finicky of ice-cream aficionados.
“Come spend time with us. Get to know us. We want to be part of your community. Part of your village,” affirms Rothschild.
“Hapeville has it going on, and the government has been – amazing,” proclaims Rothschild.
Currently, you can visit Jake, Shea, and the rest of the crew at Jake's Ice Creams at 755 Virginia Ave from 12 noon to 8pm Sunday through Thursday, and 12 noon to 9pm Fridays & Saturdays.
