‘Promise of a Mew Day’ | Local cat-centric non-profit earns over $9K from recent fundraiser
The ‘Brews & Mews’ silent auction event raked in some much-needed scratch for Tri-Cities Friends of Kitties.

A certain cat-tastic animal non-profit based here in the Tri-Cities gained themselves something of a new life with their earnings from a recent fundraiser in Hapeville.
No need to be too alarmed though – they already had nine of them.
The ‘Brews & Mews’ Silent Auction Fundraiser was the first public event since the pandemic for the East Point-based Tri-Cities Friends of Kitties, a volunteer-based organization that focuses on the ethical treatment and education of feral or homeless cats living in the East Point, College Park, and Hapeville area.
“Moving cats doesn’t work. Certainly (not) exterminating cats because other cats will just move in. So, this is the only answer," proclaims Curt Rush, president of the solely volunteer-based animal non-profit.
“That's the trap-neuter-return cycle.”
Rush, an avid cat lover, and longtime Jefferson Park resident, helped found the non-profit back in 2017 along with his fellow feline-philic friends.
What distinctly sets Tri-Cities Friends of Kitties apart from the vast majority of animal non-profits is that they are not an adoption-based organization.
The group’s modus operandi is primarily focused on Trap-Neuter-Release or (TNR) where in partnership with LifeLine’s Community Cat Program, the group traps local feral and community cats, gets them spayed or neutered, and then returns the felines to their original home locations.
In addition to their continual TNR duties, Rush along with the volunteers also ensure that the cats are fed as well as, safely sheltered to the tune of 75 to 80 cats – daily!
“I saw the need for people who have feral cats, community cats that needed help,” Rush tells Vox Pop ATL.
The ‘Brews & Mews’ event took place on the afternoon of November 12th, 2022 from 1 pm - 6 pm and was again hosted at the local favorite watering hole, Arches Brewing at 3361 Dogwood Dr. in Hapeville.
Here are just a sample of the local businesses that graciously donated goods or services to the ‘Brews & Mews’ silent auction:
Arden's Garden
Douglas Dewey Creative
Outback Bikes
Drip-Thru Coffee
Oz Pizza
Doggie Style Atlanta
Academy Theater
Brake Pad and many more.
According to a post on the Friends of Kitties FB page, the final tally for the day’s event was $9,302!
Sounds like a purr-fect day to me.
