‘We Gotta Represent’ | Former EP Council Member runs for GA House of Representative spot
Several key state positions are in contention for today’s primary election
TRI-CITIES, ATL. — Election day has finally arrived for the midterm elections. Tuesday, May 24, 2022
‘Midterm elections’ are the elected positions staggered in-between the four-year Presidential elections.
While every election is critical, this midterm election will be deciding crucial seats here in the Peach State, such as Governor, Lt. Governor, and U.S. Senator.
However, even closer to home is the election for GA State House - District 62, the district that encompasses much of the Tri-Cities, including parts of East Point, College Park, the city of South Fulton, and Atlanta.
The newly-redrawn district falls under the oversight of the GA House Representative.
Meet the Candidates:
Vox Pop ATL spoke with each of the three candidates running for GA State House - District 62.
Josh Noblitt is a Methodist Minister at Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Atlanta. He serves as Chair of the Fulton County Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) Board and has also served on the board of the former Atlanta Mayor’s LGBTQ Advisory Board.
"I ran before. I had a number of neighbors and community leaders that reached out to me and encouraged me to run. I prayed about, thought about it, and felt ‘OK’ to give this a shot again.”
Tanya Miller is a criminal defense lawyer and former Fulton County Assistant District Attorney.
"People are a little tired, right, because they did all this hard work and yet we still haven’t really seen legislation attacking voter suppression, police reform, or accountability coming from Washington.
A lot of folks were thinking that we’d have these seismic shifts if came out and voted and put our two Democratic officers in office. And that really hasn’t happened.”
Thomas Calloway is an East Point native and a former two-term* city council-member for the City of East Point. As a local business owner, he partnered with the Regional Strategic Welcoming Plan to create the Tri-Cities Small Business Fair.
"It’s no secret that right now at the State House, we’re not getting good public policy. What we’re getting is political theatre. We spend approximately $26 billion a year in income tax, sales tax, and gasoline tax and we rarely see that money come home south of I-20.”
